IDF Preparation

IDF service is a responsibility and a right for the majority of Israel’s citizens. It is an important milestone in the lives of young men and women in Israel and serves as a transition into adulthood and mainstream Israeli society. The goal of Aharai’s IDF Preparation program is to prepare groups of high school students for a meaningful service in the IDF, with an emphasis on leadership positions and values such as capability, responsibility and community. After completing the program, participants are encouraged to continue to be part of the Aharai family by joining Aharai’s alumni movement - many even become leaders of future groups.

"Aharai changed my life. Our legendary group and guide taught me that there is no such thing as cannot, that every difficulty and any barrier can be smashed with willpower! Thanks to Aharai, I continued on to a gap year volunteering program followed by a meaningful service at an elite unit.” - David Cohen, alum from Jerusalem group

Shnat Sherut – Aharai at the Community

The program operates in various cities around the country, and is a follow-up framework for Aharai graduates and other youth who are interested in joining the organization. The participants live together in their own apartment and lead an independent commune life accompanied by a commune coordinator.
The Shnat Sherut focus on 3 aspects:
The individual – each participant undergoes a key and empowering personal process that gives him significant success experiences and a sense of being part of a great mission. Every participant receives professional tools for educational work, including trainings and seminars throughout the year.
Group - At the core, we build a strong and cohesive action group that knows how to work together for the benefit of common goals. In every commune you will find the whole of Israeli society under one warm and loving family roof!
Community - The participants are working in the cities and are part of the existing community in the city. They volunteer with children and youth from different backgrounds in formal and informal educational settings, in Aharai youth groups and initiating projects in the city.
"The Shnat Sherut is a year of opportunity! An opportunity to discover an entire city, an opportunity to discover and fall in love with the worlds of children and teenagers and to know that you are there for them. An opportunity to work with hearts and feel Israeli society up close. An opportunity to discover yourself and love what you find." (Yonatan Zrud, Shnat Sherut graduate 2019).

Soldiers Mentoring

Every year, the IDF deals with thousands of soldiers who are unable to integrate properly into the military system.
We believe that a successful experience and personal fulfillment during the military service places the soldier at a better starting point in his release from the army and makes him a contributing citizen in Israeli society.
The Soldiers Mentoring program accompanies soldiers during their military service and provides a solution to the variety of challenges that result from adapting to the military system. This, in order to make their service effective, successful and help all soldiers contribute as much as they can, on the one hand and develop personally, on the other.
